Our story….
Our 3 year old Granddaughter summed it up nicely, “Grandad doesn’t go to work, he just plays with the cows”.
We love this life. The fresh air, seeing the grass green up hours after a downpour, watching a brand new calf take it’s first steps. It’s especially great when our Grandchildren visit. We feel pretty blessed. There are, of course, some tough aspects. We’ve learned via the school of hard knocks! One hard learned lesson early on was buying poor quality cattle, and cattle that were crazy. It’s easier, and safer, to buy cattle that have been handled from a young age, and to buy cattle that have decent genetics.
Small farmers attending cattle auctions, tenuously bidding for cattle that “look good” - we feel for you! Competing against Cattle Buyers Agents at these auctions is stressful. How can you really tell until you’ve got a few years under your belt? For example, how do you know if you’re buying a cow that has not conceived the last 2 years and they’re getting rid of her? There is an easier way. If you come to our property to view our Droughtmaster cattle, David is happy to share our animals history, their weight, genetics etc and you get to see them in the paddock.
